Oh Sugar, Why Have You Done This to Me!?

Different health benefits of fruit:

As every woman should understand when you are pregnant, cravings are just some things that you cannot ignore. It's definitely much more difficult as as pregnant diabetic, because although some times we may give in to the cravings there are bad consequences not only just for you, but for your unborn child...

Oh No!

How can you treat those cravings and send them away?

Fruit was the answer for me!
During my pregnancy I am craving every sweet thing you can think of:
cheesecakes, candy, cookies, REAL juice, pie, cakes, brownies you name it. But as a diabetic those things are extremely dangerous for us to be eating on a daily basis lol. So what type of alternative was I supposed to opt for?

"I wanted something sweet, so I got up and walked to the living room. I was almost drooling from the thought of something sugary running down my throat and there she was. My beautiful green pear. It was right in the center of the table and I could have sworn I heard her singing to me. I ran and sunk my teeth into it and let me tell you, it was absolutely amazing!"

Fast forward to about 30 minutes later, and I bet you wouldn't believe me when I tell you I had 3 more! I felt so guilty for stuffing my face just for my sweet tooth satisfaction, but I checked my blood sugar and it only went up about 10 numbers! I was so excited that I finally found the answer to my sweet tooth problems!

Over the next few weeks I had to imagine there were more fruit with low sugar or a low glycemic index. I came across kiwi, nectarines and lemons. Throughout the years I always thought that kiwi's were very sweet (so of course I stayed away from them entirely) but heading to the supermarket I wanted to exit out of there with a victory.

Healthy facts about kiwi:

1.Does wonders for the skin
2.High blood pressure? eat a KIWI a day!
3.High level of Vitamin C
4.Excellent fiber source (good for digestive health)
5.Naturally o-r-g-a-n-i-c

Amazing right? Here are some healthy facts about L-E-M-O-N-S

1.High levels of Vitamin C
2.Immune booster
3.Liver cleanser ;)
4.Helps to fight fatigue
5.stimulates stomach muscles

Last but not least some healthy facts about nectarines:

1.Vitamin A!( good for teeth, bones, skin...)
2.Great source of Vitamin C
3.High in Dietary Fiber
4.Bananas aren't the only fruit with Potassium
5.Helps to fight Cancer

I will never feel guilty again, When you're craving that sweet something, Grab a fruit. These are only a few fruits that I choose to eat and of course all of our bodies respond differently. But what's the harm in trying? They are delicious and nutritious!

Pregnancy and diabetes is never a good mix

Through the eyes of a pregnant diabetic

First thing is first, I know I have neglected you all for a few months, but the reason for that being is I'm now expecting a baby boy due May 10, this year!

Woot woot!

It was such a huge surprise to me and to be honest in the beginning it was extremely difficult. I'm still a very new diagnosed type 1 diabetic and all the doctors constantly told me "you can't get pregnant!"
It did discourage me a bit, but I wasn't trying to have a baby right now anyway.

Let's start with hormones!

Oh my good Lord, my acne came in full force and I've tried every product on the shelf you can think of. I constantly washed my face and nothing helped. :( I was freaking out everyday I just didn't know what to do. But my partner reminded me everyday or everytime he saw me get upset that I'm still beautiful.
What a great guy ladies
Over time of course now it finally seems to be calming down. Im well into my second trimester and am in school full time.

Morning sickness?

Ladies........

I literally can't even describe the amount of agony I was in the first 3 months. I mean even the thought of too many different foods at once would make me want to vomit. Every morning, or even every other time of the day I threw up my life. Im just now starting to pack on the pounds lol!

Glad that stage is over.

I believe I've hit the emotional rollercoaster now. If I thought I was sensitive before, boy was I wrong haha.
But, my energy has returned for the most part, although my mornings are still pretty draggy.

Aside from all those normal unfortunate events during pregancy, I wanted to discuss the struggle of having diabetes and being pregnant.

Whoa...
it is a whole other way of life. The amount of self control a person must have over her food is so air tight and strict. You don't want your numbers too high and you dont want them too low where you end up passing out.

Safe range blood sugar #'s:

Now for me the doctors want me to wake up with a blood sugar level at 60-90mg/dl. When they told me that I was in such shock because isnt anything under 70 considered low blood sugar?!
Crazy...
But some how I'm totally doing it. And I'm doing a hell of a job too! :)
Before meals they want my numbers under 90mg/dl and after
under 130mg/dl.

Now the hard part is when you're pregnant you have all these cravings, youre constantly hungry. I can't tell you how many times a day I give myself insulin because of the amount of meals I'm having. Its ridiculous! If I could average it out, I'd say im taking like 8-10 needles a day!
And I used to take just 5. It's a huge difference. And as im typing my stomach is growling. Guess I'll be having something to eat!

Just wanted to update you all on the diabetes and I'll return with another post later this week.
I want to share new
sweets
that I discovered are very healthy and diabetic friendly to calm that sweet tooth!

Till next time, Oh and happy new year everyone I hope this year brings much joy and safety :)

GOD BLESS.
