Eat 6 times a day--3 Parts.

Breakfast Session

Part 1.

^Blue is my favorite color^

When I woke up this morning the first thing I did was check my glucose level and it was 90mg/dL. My breakfast consists of a certain amount of carbs and I am already on a set amount of insulin intake. Here we have some Kashi Cereal(You can usually find this at your local supermarket) about 3/4 of a cup=26 caborhydrates. Next, is about half of a banana which equals to 15 carbohydrates. Then the milk(you need a great source of dairy per day), I drink Lactaid and there's a full cup in this bowl which needs to be accounted for and that equals up to 13 carbohydrates. So let's add that 26+15+13=54 carbs in total. My insulin intake is different than others, therefore I only need 3 units of insulin to cover these carbs.
(Later I will further explain how to count carbs, as I am still very new to this and am learning as I go. So we will be learning together!)
Hello cherry! Nice up close and personal. Remember what I said about cherries, I had about 4 of these with some grapes and blueberries, about a cup full of them as a snack 2 hours after my breakfast. My glucose level was 107mg/dL. Perfect, looks like i'm doing something right!

I know that my numbers may be a bit intimidating considering the fact that I am still new to this, but during the first few weeks I couldn't get my numbers out of the 200-300s! That is very unhealthy, but I had my mother and others to help me and keep me focused on what needed to be done. I spoke to doctors and they helped explain further about Proportions. I limited my food intake even more, and ever since then my numbers have been wonderful. Although the doctors are extremely happy with my results they have warned me that this may just be my honeymoon phase, meaning my numbers may go up in a few months. But maybe they wont; let's have faith and believe we can all get through this together with no problems.

*There will be an update regarding lunch and the snack following that, think I'll be having pancakes! Feel free to comment and share photos of your breakfast with me and tell me how many carbs are in your breakfast.
All my photos are taken on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3! I do not use pictures from any other party or site.

  1. Hello

Food! Eating! Eating the right/healthy stuff, that can make a difference!. Since Melody had to change her ways of eating, I was super busy in the kitchen trying to be creative with foods for her to eat, but at the same time, making the food look very inviting, delicious and of course nutritious!. Mel has taken over and I'm happy for her and other individuals with Diabetes. So make you foods healthy, colorful and inviting! Who said that Diabetes has to be dark and gloomy!. Actually whatever Melody eats, I too eat the same. It can't hurt, it does the body good!

  2. My sugars still go up even with taking insulin. Do you ever wait like 5 minutes before eating so your sugar does not sky rocket?

    1. Hey patrick! :-) uh to answer your question, at the very beginning I would wait around 15 minutes before I ate. It also depends on your injection sight. I do mine in my abdomen because the insulin starts working very fast But if you do it in other places it takes a bit longer. Also, it depends on your insulin. I would wait 10 to 15 mins before eating next time and see how that goes. And check out your type of insulin on other sites about the time frames. If that doesn't work out, contact your doctor they may need to change your units or diet, hope this helps! Thanks for reading :-)

    2. Your blog is amazing. I thank god literally that I found you. I finally feel like I have someone who can educate me. Today was another crazy day. My BS was around 140 this morning and I went for a short run. All fine. Then around 10 am my BS really started to drop so I took two glucose tablets. At lunch it was 104 before I ate. I had a cheese steak sub or hogie and fries, I was still scared from the low so I only took 5 units of insulin where I probably would have taken 10. Sure enough it started going up really fast. When I finished eating I took another 5 thinking that would calm it down, nope it rose up to about 410 and I do wear a sensor so I was even adding in correction boluses. What can I do to not get such extremes. I mean do you carb count every meal? Do your sugars ever do what I just explained. I sometimes feel like I am the only person that has crazy days like today.

    3. Hey again, it sounds like you had a crazy meal!
I do carb counting for every single meal, and if I feel like I may have had too many carbs I drink two glasses of water with it. Just for advice, if you're supposed to take any set amount of insulin than take it, don't assume otherwise. I remember my numbers were pretty low one day and I thought if I just ate I'd be alright, but 5 mins after my meal it shot up in the high 200s. So I took my normal insulin amount right away.
Also do you have a schedule of what time you eat and etc? I eat at the same time every day around about. And also I keep my carbs around the same amount so im not taking like 5 units and then 9 units later and then 12 in the morning, you get what im saying?

Exercising naturally brings your numbers down, so it's best to check your levels after you do your run and have a light carb snack to avoid your numbers dropping.
Be very careful with bread, it's extremely high in carbs even one slice!
Are you on the pump btw?
And if you are really struggling, please don't hesitate to contact your doctor, call them for anything!
